Sizing up a Monopoly: Turnitin Clarity vs Cursive
How does a little our little company compete with a billion dollar enterprise like Turnitin?
Turns out, pretty well.
Turnitin, the largest academic integrity company in the world released “Clarity” yesterday (they’d been teasing this approach/solution since April 2024).
The tools is
a “walled garden” writing environment for students that captures granular revision history (process tracking)
a “pedagogical chain-of-reasoning” large language model (think ChatGPT) that teachers can control.
We took at look at their marketing documentation and training materials to see how it stacks up to Cursive installed on a Moodle site. Spoiler alert: we’re less expensive (even free), give the same control, and do more.
